The Queen's Park FC Foundation Newsletter - 10th Edition

Hey folks! Everyone at the Foundation is excited to announce our 10th edition of our Newsletter! As education recommences for both Primary and Secondary School students, Community Football starts back after pre-season training, our new One-Pot Cooking Class is underway, we can’t wait to tell you all about it and more! Stay tuned for more inspiring stories and exciting developments!

'In the Mixer' One-Pot Cooking Class

The Foundation is excited to share how our new One-Pot Cooking Class has been going with us now being halfway through the pilot of the programme run at Clincartill Parish Church and with our fabulous Community Chef Rona Proudfoot instructing in the kitchen.

Starting our pilot in Aug 2024 across 6 weeks, families have been cooking along with our community chef, healthy, culturally and religiously inclusive and nutritious meals while skills and confidence building in the kitchen, learning about food safety and hygiene too.

We know that good food contributes to overall health and happiness, and it is our mission to help local families foster this with our support, teaching the cooking skills required and the nutritional knowledge for families to sustain this for themselves and for future generations to come, as we work and learn together week to week, enjoying the free meal we cook together too as one big family! It has been great to bring people together to make friends too.

We have had such a positive response to our classes so far, with one participant saying:

“Thank you so much. It was so great to access something as a family. My 7-year-old ate all her vegetables! Delighted! Thank you”

Jade West, Community Development Manager at the Foundation, was thrilled at how the sessions have been going:

We are having so much fun learning together with our families and our wonderful Community Chef Rona at “in the mixer”, our one-pot cooking classes. Families already are reporting how much they have been inspired to try to cook new dishes at home since joining us, with one participant saying how delighted she was to see her daughter eat all of her vegetables!

We are fostering a really therapeutic, engaging and inclusive lifelong learning space that families can access together, which is truly serving the needs and aspirations of our community to live healthier, happier lives and continue to see the benefits of bringing families together in this capacity, where people are making new friends too. It has been truly heartwarming so far.

Rona is doing a fantastic job of sharing top tips weekly which are already making their way into the new routines for families at home, and really helping our families to think of sustainable ways to shop, cook and reduce waste, giving families the education needed to help maximise cooking on a budget, while still being able to eat tasty, filling, and nutritious meals at home.

At the halfway point, I am really proud of what we are building here with the Community, and look forward to our remaining sessions and more Community meals to come”

Community Football Returns!

Queen’s Park FC Foundation is delighted to have our Community Teams back in league action over the past two weekends with every squad playing with the exception of our newly formed Boys 2019 team.

We had some great performances across the board with one of our teams featuring a 50-1!

Graham Barclay, Football Development Coordinator at the Foundation, had this to say about the return:

“It’s great to see all our players and coaches back and enjoying their football again after the summer break. Even the weather hasn’t dampened their spirits.

I’m looking forward to a season filled with effort, enthusiasm and importantly, enjoyment, from all involved with the Foundation”

The Foundation is still looking forward to welcoming new players to our club, helping develop their footballing abilities, improving skills on and off the pitch, and most importantly, having fun.

Queen’s Park FC Women – First Victory in SWPL in 10 Years

Queen’s Park FC Women picked up their first 3-points of the season against Spartans FC on Sunday 25th August.

The Spiders came away with all three points after previous defeats against tough opposition in Rangers and Hearts and are looking forward to keeping the winning momentum going as the season continues.

John McNeil, Football Development Manager & Head of Women’s Football, was delighted with the result:

“It was a great win against Spartans, who are a well-established ScottishPower WPL1 side.

The group have done exceptionally well to get the first win so early on in the season, but to then follow it up with a second win in 3 days on Wednesday away to Dundee Utd was absolutely fantastic”

The Foundation are developing plans for season tickets for Queen’s Park FC Women – if you would like to register interest in signing up for one, please send us an email at: foundation.football@queensparkfc.co.uk
